Why You Need to Ditch Your Digits, Now!

Losing weight is a numbers game. You have a starting weight, a goal weight, a calorie target, a daily step goal, and you usually have a time frame in which you hope to reach your desired result. And then there are the daily or weekly weigh-ins. Numbers, numbers and more numbers.

As a weight loss professional, I can’t say that the numbers aren’t important or meaningful. But there are times when those numbers do more harm than good. And if the numbers become overwhelming, it’s time to ditch them and focus on things that are more important.

More Than My Numbers

Kim “Kimmay” Caldwell is a lingerie expert and founder of Hurray Kimmay, a resource for women “to inspire them to say hurray on the inside, outside, and underneath it all.” Her inspiring work has been featured on The Martha Stewart Show, Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style, in O Magazine and many other media outlets. She recently started a new campaign to encourage women to put their numbers in perspective. The campaign is called "More Than My Numbers" and it promotes inspirational stories of real women who are choosing to feel more empowered.

“The project is meant to help people know their numbers but not be defined by them. We're starting with women and bra size, but it goes far beyond that. In the stories that have debuted, two specifically focus on weight as a number that had defined them in the past. And pretty much every woman who applied to participate mentioned weight and the number on the scale,” says Kimmay.

“It's my hope that encouraging women to take their bra size measurements and calculate their bra size will help them start a loving relationship with their bodies and their numbers,” she says. Once they start to see one number differently, like bra size, they can start to see others differently, like weight. Or vice versa. That loving attitude spreads throughout her whole body and being.”

Don't Let Your Digits Define You

You may not want to separate completely from health numbers that help you reach your goals, but with Kimmay’s program you can throw them out into the universe to release any power that they hold over you. “Remember, your weight is information, not a definition. The number on the scale doesn't show the full picture of who you are, what you've accomplished, how you love, or your worth in the world. You are more than your weight. You are more than your numbers.”
